The Best of Sheryl Crow
After about a decade of recording and releasing decent music, it was bound to happen. Sheryl Crow's greatest hits collection has arrived, and it's an interesting compilation. It's sequenced in an unusual fashion. Instead of going chronologically, so you can follow the evolution of her music, it jumps from her first hit, "All I Wanna Do," to one of her most recent, "Soak Up the Sun." From there, it winds through songs fairly randomly. It appears that it tries to group songs a bit with more upbeat ones and slower songs grouped together, but there are exceptions and it's a bit unorthodox. Worse off is that pretty much every single that was released is on here, so that means you have to sift through if there's songs you aren't familiar with to get to the ones you want to sing along with. Ultimately though, that's to be expected. While Crow has been recording for a decade, there's only four albums to pull songs from, and the third one didn't have as many songs that are recognizable. Yet some of the more recognizable songs aren't here. Where's "Can't Cry Anymore"? Still, this is a strong collection that shouldn't be overlooked. There's plenty of hits here that hold up well over time, including "Strong Enough," "Leaving Las Vegas," and "A Change Would Do You Good." The version available at the store we bought it at included a bonus DVD, which has the videos for most of her hits, which has the same unusual sequencing. Still, it's a graet bonus for fans of Crow. The CD overall has its weak points, but is definitely worth it, especially when it clocks in just under the length a CD can feasibly hold. Crow fans shouldn't find much to dislike, and those who haven't been introduced to her have a great primer. Click here to order "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow"
